Sharon Watkins, MA, IBCLC, RLC, mother of four children, is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant who has been serving families in the South Bay since 1989. Along with Susanna Lutton, she co-founded the Breastfeeding Support Center in 2000, and managed the clinic until it was closed in July 2009.
She did not set out to be a lactation consultant. After college, she went to law school and passed the Bar, and later entered a doctoral program in international relations theory and strategic studies. After her first child came along, though, life took a detour, which led her to becoming a childbirth educator and a La Leche League Leader. After a few years in La Leche League, she realized where she had been headed all along and started working to become an IBCLC. She has never looked back.
Sharon’s approach to babies and breastfeeding is simple: listen to your baby and listen to your heart; they will never steer you wrong.
