History of Beach Cities Babies

In 1999, Susanna Lutton and Sharon Watkins, recognizing the need for community-based, professional breastfeeding services, established the Breastfeeding Support Center under the auspices of Beach Cities Health District. The clinic opened in 2000 and for eight and a half years provided high quality, compassionate support to new families in the South Bay.

In July 2009, BCHD closed the clinic to pursue other priorities.  Susanna and Sharon knew that, though the clinic had been shut, the need for the services that it provided was still very real.

Beach Cities Babies is an outgrowth of that recognition, as well as an appreciation of the need for personalized prenatal education for women who are on bed-rest at home or in the hospital or for those seeking the convenience of a customized class in a private setting.
